Three of us stopped for breakfast here. My wife and I enjoyed an East omelette which was well made with fresh, tasty, ingredients prepared simply, with care. Great roasted potatoes.
The coffee was a unexpected surprise, very good. La Colombe I believe, roasted locally in Frogtown (Elysian Valley).
My friend was very pleased with a breakfast burrito which looked scrumptious.
The food was prepared well, not at all greasy. For what it is, a breakfast and lunch cafe, can't be beat.
Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back! -

Great local café and restaurant. Sunny Side Up isn't anything fancy but it's the quality that counts. Starting at probably the best cappuccino in Eagle Rock, the owner is great and breakfast is consistently good. Eggs & bacon on a croissant ("Number 1") and the french toast are delicious. I love spending time here, it's just a great local place which is what I still love about the neighborhood, not everything needs to be polished and fancy.
As a bonus for Gen Xers of a certain type, the background music is consistently good.
One of my favorite places for a weekend breakfast. -

I've only had this spot once, so I have limited knowledge. But, what I do know is...
1. The people who work here seem to care.
2. They have KILLER coffee, and they know it.
3. The breakfast we had was the bomb.
4. They need to up their pastry game.
5. They take Tuesdays off (I think, its one day in the middle of the week), cause its just these two guys. But their hour sign says they are open every day, cause who cares about signs. Eagle Rock is becoming a bit like Portland.
Coffee and Avocado Toast were great. As was the bacon.
Thanks! -

Pleasant experience. I got The Rock and loved it. Very pleased with that dish. Also tried out Avocado Toast. It was different. Neither bad or great. White Chocolate Mocha was decent. They use La Columbe Coffee. Got a slice of chocolate cake to try as someone said it was a must get. It was kinda good, but too sweet for my taste. Bf got Pancake Brekki. We both liked the pancakes.
Service. Order at the counter and seat yourself. They'll bring the food to you. Service was good. Didn't have any problem.
Would go back for The Rock, pancake and try other things. -

On our daily #tenthousandstepsperday walk, we have passed this place multiple time - and found it very appealing, so we even took its takeaway menu.
Today we went - and I must say we had a very special time there. Having seated ourselves and got ourselves menu, we waited and waited and waited. We had an amazing time though, as we invented a new game: spot the typos on the breakfast menu - or, in their terms "breackfast" - and even the name on this yelp posting is misspelled - must read café - not cafè (I know I am a smartass)
Just as we both had hit the thirty-typo mark, a staff member showed up, only to inform you that they do not offer table service. Fair enough, at least now someone bothered to take the order.
Then, the guy disappeared before I was even finished paying. Normally I am hesitant to tip before the service is completed - and I wish I had not tipped at all - as the service was nonexistent. I could not even get a receipt, even though the square system they had provided the button to get one.
Worse: my wife's "leafed tropical tea", looked and tasted as if it came out that classic gallon green tea containers) - and did not remotely taste "tropical".
But you can do worse: I never got my drink at all - and we never got the food we actually ordered:
My wife ordered THE MOZZ which was to come with a side of fresh fruit - she got "home potatoes", which turned out to be undercooked potatoes heated up in a pan and peppered in a way she could not eat them. Her toast was not toasted but must have been heated in a pan of oil.
I ordered THE MESS which was supposed to contain "home fries" with "eggs sunny side up". The fries were same undercooked potatoes and the eggs were sunny side down - exactly the opposite of what I had wanted.
No one bothered to show up, so ate whatever we liked from what was provided - and left. No good-bye, somewhat hungry - by far not good enough for the $35 we had spent. Will we go back: definitely not. Only the "Cute little new place in the neighborhood" factor plus that we ate some of it avoided the one star, while I am still amazed about me being so generous ;-).
